Our Story
Dedicated to Community and Growth
My wife Rosemary and I have three adult children, Mary Beth and her husband Tom live in Trussville with three of our grandchildren: Addie Grace, Ella Rose (Rosie) and Katy. Our oldest son, Luke, and his wife, Morgan, are part of the congregation here at Sherrod Avenue, along with our other two grandchildren: Zoie and Zac. Our youngest son, Adam, lives in Memphis.
We have been worshiping at Sherrod Avenue since 1985, just before Luke was born. We, and our children, have grown up at Sherrod Avenue and have grown close to many of the people here, developing relationships that are so important to us.
I began serving as a shepherd at Sherrod Avenue in 1996. I prefer the term shepherd, as I think it reflects one of the aspects of church leadership that is sometimes overlooked: caring for people and their souls.
During our time at Sherrod Avenue, we have been through some great times and some tough times – individually, as a family and as a congregation. Through it all, I think our faith has been strengthened and matured. We have remained here because of the love shown to us by so many people and because of our love for them.
As a visitor, I hope that you have a great experience worshipping together with us and see the love we have for our God, one another and for you. We want you to know that you are welcome at Sherrod Avenue, and if you are looking for a church home, we hope you will consider us.
